Research in neurons and networks

The question of how biological networks of millions of neurons organize themselves from microscopic noisy individuals (the neurons) to a robust macroscopic entity (i.e. the brain or spinal cord) that produces a reliable function remains as an unsolved conundrum.

Our research takes a system-approach to address this conundrum and understand the nervous system.

We believe that it is crucial not just to investigate a single neuron in isolation, but to study neurons embedded in a healthy developed network of neurons.

Our research relies on:

  • Intracellular recordings of a single neuron embedded in an active network (brain or spinal cord).
  • Simultaneous multi-unit recording (~100 neurons) from spinal motor network activity.
  • Advanced analysis techniques (done in mostly in Matlab).

We put emphasis on having a strong data-driven analysis including advanced analytical tools as well as mathematical modelling. Multi electrode
